What Do You Want for Christmas? emergent reader

Today is my first day off for Thanksgiving Break.  While I am off I am trying to get some things together for a Christmas Unit.  We will be working on Christmas activities for 3 weeks, and then we will be off again!  Here is a reader I created today for my students to practice reading and writing the sight word "want".

Thanksgiving Printables

Just one more day until Thanksgiving Break!  I have added a few more printables to my Thanksgiving Print and Go Pack.

We reviewed some of the sight words that we have been learning by coloring the little Indian boy.

I am running low on highlighters so I gave my kids yellow markers and this Sight Word Search.  They were quiet as a mouse.  They had so much fun.  It took them a little while to find the words, but they had fun and did a really great job.

We have been learning how to count by 2s.  This is a new concept for most of us so I put a number line at the top of the sheet and told the kids to circle the number 2 and then every other number.  Once all the numbers were circled the kids went back and wrote the numbers by 2s onto the turkey's bellies.  This really helped them to be able to count by 2s.

This sheet reviews beginning sounds.  The kids look at the picture on the turkey and then write the beginning sound.

We have not worked on blends yet this year.  We have been more focused on finding the beginning, middle and ending sounds of words, so I added this to the mix.  We will do this activity tomorrow.  I'm sure the kiddos will do great.  I have such a smart group!

Thanksgiving Emergent Readers

I love making emergent readers to introduce new sight words and to review other concepts that we are working on.  Here are 2 of my new Thanksgiving readers.

The first reader has students practice writing the word "you" and also recognizing color words.  Students write "you" and then color the turkey to match the color word.

"This Turkey" has students practice writing the word "this", counting and coloring.

You can find these readers here and here.

Print and Go~ Thanksgiving Printables

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share five highlights from my week.

I am going to show five printables that are from my Print and Go~ Thanksgiving Packet.

This is a Color by Sight Word Pilgrim that reviews words we have been learning.

This pilgrim girl is trying to decorate a cake to take to the Thanksgiving feast, but her letters are all mixed up.  Students must unscramble the CVC words and write the letters on the lines.  There are 2 different sheets like this in my packet.  My students did an awesome job unscrambling the words.

In Math, we have been working on counting to 100 and also recognizing numbers.  So, in the packet I have two 100s charts with hidden pictures.  One chart has a Pilgrim hat and the other is a hidden turkey.

There are several poems/songs in the packet that require students to circle sight words.  Here is a look at I'm a Little Indian.

This is the Song I'm a Very Fine Turkey.  I love that it reviews sight words and color words.

Happy Friday!  Two more school days and I'm out for Thanksgiving Break! :)
